Leon Corlew Park is Officially Open!

The wait is over! On Friday, July 8, area children and families came out to make a splash at opening day for Leon Corlew Park and Splash Pad located in Edwardsville, Illinois. This park’s highly anticipated opening in the community was a huge success and was completed in part by the support of the A Better Place to Play campaign to bring more recreational facilities into the area.

“The community has been looking forward to this for a long time. I get calls from people excited about it every day,” Katie Grable, of the City of Edwardsville Parks and Recreation Department, told EdGlenToday.com. “It is wonderful to bring the park to the community. Joe Glik Park was the last addition and that was a long time ago. It is unique with the splash pad and playground areas and the fitness trail.”

The park is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., while the splash pad is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week until fall. The park is equipped with trained staff and includes ADA features, a walking/fitness track, playground area, pavilions, restrooms/changing rooms as well as native plantings with interpretive signage and a butterfly garden. The Leon Corlew Park offers something for everyone to enjoy.

Leon Corlew Park is the first of the three parks to be completed in the City of Edwardsville’s fundraising effort – A Better Place to Play.
